Germany
DEUGermany has Europe's largest economy and recently liberalised its citizenship law via the June 2024 reform, allowing dual nationality for everyone naturalising and reducing the standard residence requirement to 5 years (3 years for those with C1 German plus demonstrated 'special integration achievements'). The Skilled Worker Visa, EU Blue Card, and Opportunity Card (Chancenkarte, launched June 2024) attract global talent into a structurally tight labour market. Standard income tax rates run progressively to 45% plus a solidarity surcharge for high earners; church tax adds 8–9% for declared members. Naturalisation requires B1 German, the Einbürgerungstest civics test, and demonstrated income sufficiency. Healthcare is mandatory — public statutory insurance (gesetzliche Krankenversicherung) covers most residents while higher earners and the self-employed may opt for private cover. Non-residents can open accounts at most German banks with passport and proof of address; Anmeldung (residence registration) within 14 days of arrival is a hard prerequisite for almost everything else. Germany is an EU and Schengen member.
